Commissioners approve intent to adopt hazard mitigation plan to meet FEMA deadline

Christian County commissioners voted to approve an intent to adopt the county hazard mitigation plan so the county meets a FEMA deadline, emergency‑management staff told the board.
An emergency‑management official said the county has been working with CENTCOM and other regional partners to complete the plan but that FEMA requires a formal adoption or an intent to adopt by the end of the week to keep the county eligible for certain grants and assistance.
"FEMA requires that we have either an adoption of the plan, a formal adoption, or something stating adoption or the intent to adopt by Friday in order to meet FEMA deadlines," the emergency‑management official said. (Emergency management official)
Commissioners said they were comfortable approving an intent to adopt now and allowing staff to finish technical edits and final approvals with SEMCOG and other reviewers. One commissioner said the county should adopt the finished plan once it is perfected. The motion to approve the intent passed by voice vote of the commissioners present.
