East Rutherford board president resigns; Erin Shemley elected by board

The East Rutherford Board of Education’s president announced he would step down from the presidency immediately, and the board moved to appoint a replacement at the July business meeting.
“I’m going to resign from the presidency,” the board president said during the public meeting, adding he would remain on the board as a member. Board members proceeded to open nominations for president.
Miss Mena nominated Erin Shemley for the post, saying, “I would like to nominate Erin Shemley.” After the board closed nominations and held a roll-call vote, the meeting’s presiding official declared Erin Shemley elected president. The newly elected president then assumed the chair at 8:11 p.m. and thanked members for the appointment: “Thank you everyone for my newly appointed seat.”
The change of leadership followed routine board business and a closed executive session. The board did not record any opposing votes to the appointment in the public roll call. The board announced its next meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the board office.
