The Osseo Public School District board on July 14 unanimously approved a joint powers agreement with the City of Maple Grove to allow cooperative use and joint management of new fields and related spaces at Aspen Ridge Elementary School and accepted gifts to the district totaling $38,859.97.
Chair Tanya Prince presided over the brief business meeting at the district’s Educational Service Center. John Morrissette, executive director of finance and operations, told the board the district and city have worked for about six to nine months on the agreement and that the city would invest in fields on the south end of the Aspen Ridge site in return for shared use and management. “So we get to use it, they get to use it, they help manage it and run it and take care of it for us,” Morrissette said.
The board voted 6–0 to approve the joint powers agreement; Morrissette said that if the board approved the district’s action the agreement would next go to the Maple Grove Park and Recreation board and the Maple Grove City Council for their approval. The contract governs cooperative use of facilities at Aspen Ridge Elementary School and the city’s investment in and management of the new outdoor spaces.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved a consent agenda that included meeting minutes, financial reports, the 2025–26 investment report, personnel items (including termination of probationary teachers), membership renewals with the Minnesota School Boards Association and the Association of Metropolitan School Districts, a contract for the district’s student information system and a joint purchasing agreement with Intermediate District 287. No items were pulled for separate consideration; the consent motion passed 6–0.
The board also approved acceptance of gifts to the district totaling $38,859.97, including in-kind donations distributed across school sites. “Just as always, thank you so much to everybody who donates,” Chair Prince said after the vote. The gifts were accepted by voice vote, 6–0.
The meeting concluded after the board confirmed there would be no closed negotiation strategy session and then adjourned at 6:05 p.m. All motions at the meeting passed by unanimous voice vote.
