Perris planning commission continues two development items; resident objects to gated walls and flooding risk

The Perris Planning Commission on July 15 continued two development items after applicants requested more time and after public comment on neighborhood impacts.
Item 6a, a planned residential development proposing 91 lots on 12.8 acres, was continued to Sept. 2 at the applicant’s request. Chair Hammond recused from that vote because of prior litigation and the commission approved the continuance on a 4‑0 vote. Resident Richard Campbell III spoke during the public‑comment period, opposing gated walls around subdivisions and saying the new walls would break neighborhood connections and could worsen local flooding. “My major concern is the gated communities that you’re putting in my neighborhood… You’re gonna build a wall there…I’ll never know those people,” Campbell said, adding that his property has flooded in the past.
Item 6b, a conditional use permit for a proposed travel center and off‑sale beer and wine license at Ethanac Road and Trumbull Road (applicant Allen Robertson for Ethanac Bridal Center), was continued to August 5 after the applicant submitted a procedural‑matter request; no public speakers addressed that item before the motion to continue, which passed 5‑0.
The continuances allow applicants to address procedural issues and for staff and the public to review updated materials. The commission’s next scheduled planning meeting noted on the record is August 5 for continued items and further hearings as needed.
