Courtney Klimm told the Village Board on Feb. 11 that organizers are planning a two-day Summer Kickoff celebration for May 29–30 in Cortland. Planned features include a live band at the ballpark sponsored by Lienetics Ranch, a beer garden by Homestead Convenience, concessions, a 5K (planned to start at 8 a.m.), a parade at 10 a.m., cornhole and other family games, and fireworks at about 10 p.m.
Klimm said organizers are seeking business sponsorships to cover costs and will provide a report at the March meeting. Event ideas discussed included a scavenger hunt with town businesses, bounce-house vendors, Kona Ice, a cornhole tournament hosted by Beatrice Area Cornhole, a raffle before fireworks and possible evening dances to fill gaps in the schedule.
No formal approvals or village expenditures were authorized at the Feb. 11 meeting; the presentation was informational and organizers will return with a sponsorship/expense update in March.
