The chief outlined practical elements of the outreach: a seminar for kids and parents where officers will examine devices and show where they can be used, backpack-sized flyers and social-media distribution, and coordination with area schools. He said staff planned a year-long education timeline and that enforcement actions already underway for more hazardous devices have been referred into the court system in some cases.
A council member thanked the chief for the work on the ordinance and moved that “ordinance number 1178 be considered placed upon its passage and adopted.” The motion was seconded and the clerk posted the vote; the measure passed 4–0 with one member absent and the ordinance was declared enacted.
The council’s action includes an implementation period emphasizing public outreach before broad street-level enforcement; staff said they expect to continue adjusting educational and enforcement tactics as new device models emerge. The council also received questions about ongoing education and cross-jurisdiction school coordination; the chief and staff said the SRO and regional school officials will be included in the outreach plan.
