The Saltville Town Council voted unanimously June 24 to adopt a remote-participation policy allowing members to take part in meetings by phone or Zoom when they cannot attend in person.
Councilman David Buchanan moved to adopt the drafted policy and Councilman Cary Sauls seconded. The roll-call vote was recorded as: Suzanne Abramson — Aye; David Buchanan — Aye; Eugene Call — Aye; R.B. Henderson — Aye; Cary Sauls — Aye. Mayor Cheri Fullen introduced the policy and said it would "help if a member had to be out but would like to still be present by phone or zoom." Town Manager Cecile Rosenbaum told the council she would like committees to consider the same option so absences at the committee level could be covered in the same way.
Council members did not discuss specific technical details in the work session; the council adopted the policy as drafted and will apply it to future meetings where a member requests remote participation.
