The Clifton Town Council on March 5 accepted Planning Commission recommendations and approved a set of local use permits and related signage that will enable new businesses and a seasonal farmers market on Chapel Road.
Council approved a final use permit for construction at 12634 Chapel Road and granted use permits for a farmers market at 12644 Chapel Road and for four new or expanded businesses at 12642 Chapel Road: Wheelhouse Pilates (suite 5M), Custom Care Physical Therapy (suite 2M) and Clifton Bridal Boutique (suites 3U and 4U). All motions to accept the Planning Commission recommendations passed by poll, 6-0.
The Planning Commission had recommended that the farmers market operate Sundays from April 14 through Nov. 17, 2024, from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. (including setup and dismantling), with a maximum of 10 vendors in the courtyard, a written parking agreement to allow five vendor vehicles to use the lot at 12642 Chapel Road, restroom access for vendors and attendees, vendor trash collection, and the requirement that any food vendors hold all required Fairfax County permits (including a Temporary Food Establishment permit), use a fire-resistant tent and have fire extinguishers.
Royce Jarrendt reported Architectural Review Board approvals for a business directory sign at 12642 Chapel Road (so tenants will not need separate Certificates of Approval for directory entries) and Certificates of Appropriateness for Main Street Pub sign replacements and for farmers market signage (subject to location limits). The council separately approved temporary lettering on the Clifton Elementary School marquee for the farmers market season and two signs in Ayre Square on market days (7 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
These approvals allow multiple new and expanding businesses to open and confirm event signage and operations for the 2024 farmers market season. The council recorded no votes against any of the permits and no amendments to the Planning Commission’s stated conditions.
