License committee approves temporary beer gardens for Monroe Lions Club tractor pull and GCDC night market

The Monroe License Committee voted to approve two temporary Class B and outdoor beer garden permits, one for the Monroe Lions Club’s tractor pull and another for a GCDC pocket-park dedication and night market scheduled the same evening.

Committee members approved the Lions Club permit for the Green County Fall Nationals tractor pull, set for Sept. 13 at the fairgrounds, by roll call after a motion and second. A committee member asked, “Same as the past?” before moving approval; the chair seconded and the motion carried.

The committee then considered GCDC’s application for a beer garden to accompany a pocket-park dedication and night market downtown. A staff member told the panel that “the tractor pull does have a significant impact on the police operations,” while describing the park-based night market as largely contained within the park and likely to create a smaller policing burden beyond initial setup. Police and fire representatives reported no issues with the GCDC proposal.

After discussion, a motion to approve the GCDC permit passed by roll call. The committee recorded affirmative votes and carried the motion. Following the approvals, a member moved to adjourn; the motion was seconded and the meeting ended by voice vote.

Both approvals were routine temporary-liquor permits for scheduled community events; the committee did not attach special conditions during the meeting. The clerk recorded roll-call approval for each item and the committee adjourned.
