Citizen Kathy Baber told the council Aug. 6 that Norfolk Southern tanker cars appear to be coming through town more often and asked the town to determine what the tankers are carrying.
Town Administrator Laura Jane Cohen said staff would reach out to Rep. Dan Helmer’s office to obtain more information. Council members noted tanker traffic and hazardous materials routing are topics covered in the Town Plan environmental section and should be considered in that review.
Next steps: Administrator to contact Rep. Dan Helmer’s office and report any information back to the council; no formal action or regulatory remedy was recorded at the meeting.
