Rutgers updates Board on unified Rutgers School of Medicine and LCME timeline

Rutgers’ two medical schools will operate as a single Rutgers School of Medicine with two campuses, one dean, unified bylaws and shared operating principles, the Board heard Dec. 9.
Dean Robert Johnson of New Jersey Medical School and Dean Amy Murtha of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School presented slides outlining the integration’s guiding principles, an LCME accreditation timeline, the new school’s mission, vision, values and strategic pillars, and recently established bylaws. Dean Johnson said his interim appointment will not affect the integration process.
The presentation emphasized continued outreach to elected officials and Newark community organizations as the schools complete the accreditation process. President Tate and Chair Towers offered brief comments following the presentation.
Board members did not take separate votes on the update; the briefing was presented as informational and to support the Board’s oversight role for the medical-school consolidation and related accreditation steps.
