Rutgers Board creates new executive post and names Kimberly Lewis as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer

The Board of Governors of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey voted unanimously on Aug. 11, 2025 to create a new university officer titled Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer and to appoint Kimberly Lewis as the inaugural holder of that office, effective immediately.
President William F. Tate IV presented the proposal and Senator Helmy presented the Executive Committee’s resolution, which described the new officer’s responsibilities to include authority to execute binding contracts for the university and directed the President, in consultation with the Executive Vice President and General Counsel (or their designees), to update the Board bylaws and relevant University policies to reflect the new post.
The Board approved the creation of the office and Ms. Lewis’s appointment without discussion. President Tate and other presenters summarized Ms. Lewis’s background, noting her service as Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Louisiana State University, previous service as Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Revenue (where she oversaw collection of more than $10 billion in taxes), and her legal training (J.D., Paul M. Hebert Law Center).
Ms. Lewis was admitted to the meeting after the vote and expressed appreciation for the appointment; President Tate welcomed her to Rutgers. The resolution took effect immediately; the Board’s minutes record that President Tate and the EVPGC will update bylaws and policies as necessary to establish the new officer’s responsibilities and authorities.
