Board hears elementary HVAC renovation update; contractor says kindergarten area complete and district on track for Aug. 11

At the July 13, 2026 meeting, the USD 464 Board of Education heard a project update on HVAC renovations at the elementary school from Mr. Linless, the presenter on the project. He said the kindergarten pod is effectively complete, the fifth-grade pod is roughly 20–30% through ductwork installation, and the district remains on schedule for a school start date of Aug. 11.

Mr. Linless showed photos of work in progress and described equipment changes on the roof, saying older VRF equipment had been removed and replaced with new rooftop units. "So as of right now, completely on schedule, still well within budget and all things are going pretty well," he said.

He detailed upcoming schedule milestones: a punch walk for areas A and B is planned for July 27, movers are scheduled to return Aug. 3–4 to move items from the gym back to classrooms, Area D punch-walk is planned for Aug. 6–7, and the contractor is targeting substantial completion on Aug. 7.

On budget, Mr. Linless said owner allowances at project start were "just over $380,000" and that as of July 9 the allowance balance was about $358,000. He identified approximately $19,000 as the cost to build four walls to enclose chase areas created by ductwork routing; he described that expense as part of expected allowances rather than a project overrun.

In response to a board question about doors at the middle school, Mr. Linless said deposits had been paid and the doors were in production but he had not yet been given a firm delivery date.

The board did not take action on the presentation. Next steps on the project include the scheduled punch walks, mover activity in early August and continued coordination with elementary administrative staff to finalize opening-day logistics.
