District proposes converting vacant custodial role to year-round maintenance technician, small wage impact

Justin Pollard, director of facility services, told the board the district is proposing to reclassify a vacant high-school custodial position into a full-time, year-round maintenance technician. Pollard said the change is intended to speed response to maintenance requests, expand preventive maintenance and provide custodial support during periods of operational need.
"To better align resources with the district's operational needs, administration recommends reclassifying the vacant custodial position to a full time year round maintenance technician," Pollard said, adding the recommendation maintains the current number of facility services staff while better utilizing existing resources.
The board packet estimated the annual financial impact at a $5,282 increase in wages. Board members asked no substantive questions during the presentation and the discussion moved on to other agenda items.
The item will appear on the district’s July 27 consent agenda for formal action. If approved, the reclassification would not increase the overall count of facility staff but would shift duties and pay to cover year-round maintenance responsibilities.
