HVAC update: committee approves Nutmeg pay application, rejects rooftop unit replacement plan and requests contractor response

Consultants and staff updated the committee on the Long School HVAC project and the status of a defective rooftop unit.
Chuck Warrens of the College of Product Leaders reviewed Colliers' financial summary, telling the committee the project is projecting roughly $489,000 in savings and that the number may grow because not all fee allowances will be used. Warrens said Nutmeg is back on site and finishing remaining work.
Warrens described an issue with Rooftop Unit #2: a controls contractor drilled in the wrong location and introduced moisture into the unit controls. The design team has written a letter formally rejecting the unit and asking that Nutmeg replace it. Staff said they expect a response from the contractor by the coming Friday and that replacement would likely occur during a school break or long weekend to minimize disruption.
The committee approved Nutmeg Pay Application #11 (06/30/2026) for $21,328.41 and approved Colliers invoice #1192144 ($1,570.40) and a prior-architect invoice (2023-121A-18 for $2,520). All votes were recorded as unanimous.
What's next: staff will distribute the design team's rejection letter and track the contractor's response; the committee will be notified of scheduling for replacement and any related change orders or credits.
