Mason Consolidated Schools board adopts 2026 technology millage and opts out of 31aa funds; approves hires and resolutions

The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education adopted several resolutions and approved personnel actions at a Nov. 13, 2025, meeting in the Mason Senior High School Library.
The board voted 5-0 to adopt the 2026 Technology Enhancement Millage Resolution. Board member Grodi moved to adopt the millage resolution and Nehrig supported the motion; roll call recorded yes votes from Waller, Otting, England, Grodi and Nehrig, with Fowler and Smith absent. The motion carried 5-0.
The board also adopted a PowerSchool Litigation Resolution (motion by Waller, supported by Grodi) and a Great Lakes Football League Resolution (motion by Grodi, supported by Waller); both passed on recorded roll calls with the same 5-0 tally and two absences.
On personnel and travel items the board approved hiring Kelly Burnside as a bus aide at $14.85 per hour (motion by England, supported by Waller) and authorized Todd Hodge, CTE construction trades teacher, to attend the Michigan Career Education Conference Jan. 25–27, 2026, in Grand Rapids (motion by Waller, supported by Grodi). Both motions carried 5-0.
The board met in closed session under Section 8(h) to consider material exempt from disclosure by statute. The meeting returned to open session at 7:14 p.m., and the board then adopted a resolution to opt out (deny) 31aa funds; England moved to adopt and Nehrig supported the motion. Roll call again recorded five yes votes and two absences; the motion carried 5-0.
The meeting included routine administrative items and recognitions: two teachers (Christopher Brown and Kristen Donnelly) reached tenure; Shawna Lucarelli and Todd Hodge were named staff members of the month by Leski Wittman Insurance Agency; and senior student Zhuoran Cai was recognized as a Commended Student in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program and awarded a $1,000 BCSN Spotlight Scholar award. The board approved the consent agenda, including October meeting minutes and the October 2025 check register.
The board adjourned at 7:16 p.m. The next regularly scheduled meeting is Dec. 3, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School Library.
