The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education voted unanimously July 9 to terminate the contract of the district’s director of business services, approve a capital project for entrance doors and vestibule work, finalize cooperative agreements with the Monroe County Intermediate School District, and hire a new maintenance staff member.
President Otting opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School IVN room. The board recorded roll call and approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Board Secretary John Waller, supported by Board member England. Public comment was invited and none was received.
Why it matters: the termination of the director of business services removes the district’s designated finance administrator from an executive contract and may create an immediate operational gap; the board simultaneously approved short-term operational decisions intended to keep facilities and business functions moving, including a facilities contract and cooperative service agreements.
On substantive votes: • Termination of Director of Business Services contract — The board approved a motion to terminate the director of business services’ contract. The motion was moved by Board member Grodi and supported by Fowler; a recorded roll call shows Waller, Fowler, Otting, England, Grodi, Smith and Nehrig voting yes (7-0). The minutes do not specify grounds for termination or an effective date.
• Tanner Supply Company contract — The board awarded Tanner Supply Company the 2025 Entrance Doors and Vestibule Project at a quoted amount of $86,390 on a motion by Grodi, supported by Waller (motion carried 7-0). The minutes record the contract amount but do not include a project timeline or funding source.
• Cooperative agreements with Monroe County Intermediate School District — The board approved two cooperative agreements: one for Technology Services (motion by Waller, supported by Fowler) and one for Business Services (motion by Grodi, supported by Nehrig). Both motions carried unanimously (7-0). The minutes note the agreements but do not attach full contractual terms.
• Personnel hire — The board approved hiring Tiffany Gueli as maintenance staff at $21.30 per hour, pending favorable reference and background checks. The motion was moved by Grodi and supported by England and carried 7-0.
Other business: the superintendent reported a successful Safety City summer program for approximately 30 children that covered stranger-danger, 911 use, water, bike, fire and bus safety; Deputy Rollins is cited as planning next year’s sessions. The superintendent also noted the pool filter repair and painting work by Leidel near the high school cafeteria, and recognized AP exam successes among students. The minutes record a $100 cash donation from Kelli Tuller to the Summer Engagement Program.
Closed sessions: the board entered a closed session under Section 8(a) to consider personnel matters from 6:14 p.m. to 6:21 p.m., and later entered a closed session under Section 8(h) for material exempt from disclosure from 6:36 p.m. to 6:56 p.m. Both closed-session motions passed on recorded votes listed in the minutes.
The board adjourned at 6:56 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for August 6, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason High School IVN room.
