Mason Consolidated Schools board approves tax rate, hires and several facility and food-service purchases

Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education on Aug. 6 approved the district'025-26 tax rate and a package of staffing, facilities and food-service purchases, voting unanimously on each motion.
President Otting called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. and the board proceeded through a consent agenda that included adoption of the 2025-26 MHSAA membership resolution and approval of multiple student handbooks. Several action items followed, each passing 5-0.
The board accepted a Monroe Plumbing and Heating Company quote for Filter First fixture replacement at $65,050 and later approved a separate Monroe Plumbing and Heating quote to replace the weightroom rooftop unit (RTU). The district also authorized purchases from the food-service excess fund: an elementary Hobart dishwasher from TriMark SS Kemp at $41,251 and a True Manufacturing three-door refrigerator from HPS at $7,728.38. All procurement motions were moved and supported by board members and recorded as carried 5-0.
On personnel, the board approved rehiring Kelsey Cole as middle-school English at Step 11 MA with a listed salary of $69,203. The board also approved hiring Traci Fackelman for middle-school special education at Step 10 BA, contingent on receipt of favorable criminal-history, reference and background checks.
The board authorized contracting with ATI Holdings, LLC for athletic-trainer services and approved the 2025-2026 individual staff contracts. Each of those motions was recorded as: motion carried 5-0.
During routine monthly items, President Otting presented the July check register and the financial report; no board questions were recorded. The board set its next regular meeting for Sept. 3, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School Library.
The meeting concluded at 6:40 p.m. after a motion to adjourn carried 5-0. Minutes were signed by John Waller, Board Secretary.
