Mason Consolidated Schools board approves energy assessment, emergency plan update, iPad purchase and staffing actions

At its Oct. 1 meeting the Mason Consolidated Schools Board approved a Trane Technologies energy assessment, a revised Emergency Operations Plan, the purchase of 25 iPads totaling $25,373.75 from the Technology Millage, several policy updates, conference travel and the hire of a CES aide.
The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education on Oct. 1 approved a series of operational, purchasing and personnel actions aimed at facilities, safety and classroom support.
Among the votes, the board unanimously accepted an agreement with Trane Technologies for a Comprehensive Energy Assessment intended to evaluate building energy performance and inform future improvements. The board also approved a revised Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and Thrun Law Firm–recommended policy revisions (multiple policy numbers listed in the minutes).
The board approved the purchase of 25 Apple iPads and cases for the elementary school at a total cost of $25,373.75 to be paid from the district’s Technology Enhancement Millage. School officials said the Millage will again be on the ballot in May and is the district’s primary funding source for instructional technology.
Personnel motions approved included acceptance of the resignation of CES aide Sharon Gaverick, and the hire of Haleigh Edmonds as a CES, IF aide at $14.85 per hour pending favorable background checks. The board also approved staff attendance at two professional conferences: Abby Kohler to the Michigan World Language Conference, Oct. 23–24, 2025, and Courtney Hammond to the MSBO Facilities and Operations Conference, Oct. 5–7, 2025.
All formal motions recorded in the minutes passed on unanimous 4-0 votes among the four seated board members (Otting, England, Fowler and Waller). The consent agenda — including Sept. 3 meeting minutes, the Sept. check register, the 2025–26 Schedule B/extracurricular duties listing, and an earlier set of Thrun Law Firm policy recommendations — was also approved by the board.
The board noted it is monitoring a state continuation budget but said the action does not currently change funding for local schools. The district’s next regular Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School Library.
