Mason Consolidated Schools board votes to permanently expel student after closed-session hearing

The Mason Consolidated Schools Board of Education voted 4-0 on Oct. 1 to permanently expel a student following a closed-session disciplinary hearing requested by the student’s parent. John Waller, board secretary, moved to offer the preamble and resolution; the motion was supported by England and carried on a unanimous roll-call vote.
The closed session was held under Section 8(b) concerning dismissal, suspension or discipline of a student and took place from 6:40 p.m. to 7:05 p.m., according to board minutes. The board said the expelled student’s identity is known to the board and consistent with the resolution; the minutes do not disclose the student’s name or the factual details of the case.
Board President Otting and members Fowler and England joined Waller in the vote. Because the hearing occurred in closed session, the board’s public record contains only the resolution’s adoption and the roll-call result. The board did not provide additional public details about the disciplinary findings at the meeting.
The board adjourned at 7:09 p.m. after completing the disciplinary vote and several other agenda items. The district’s next regular Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Nov. 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Mason Senior High School Library.
