Maple Valley board approves open enrollment and coaching contracts; handbooks tabled

At the Sept. 11 meeting the Maple Valley School Board approved an open-enrollment request (motion by George Richman, seconded by Bryce Kasowski) and approved coaching contracts for junior‑high football coach Brandon Jenkins and student council advisor Derek Bear (motion by Sara Zaun, seconded by Megan McKay). Both motions passed by unanimous consent.
Separately, the board considered updated student, certified and classified handbooks but voted to table the handbooks until the October meeting (motion by Amanda Olauson, seconded by Jennifer Koller) so remaining edits can be completed.
Board members and administrators did not record further public debate on the open-enrollment request or coaching contracts in the minutes; the actions were recorded as routine approvals. The district noted the superintendent evaluation is due Nov. 15 and that committee meeting dates were set for Sept. 18 (Policy Committee) and Oct. 1 (Building Committee).
