Board approves concrete and handrail purchases, asks DOT to add south parking paving

Maple Valley School Board members approved several facilities projects at their Aug. 12 meeting.
The board voted to accept Sheyenne Concrete’s bid of $18,426 for parking-lot and east-side sidewalk concrete work. George Richman moved the motion and Dan Wendel seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Board members also approved asking North Dakota Department of Transportation to add paving of the south parking lot to the Highway 10 project’s scope of work as an addendum; the board discussed that a rough estimate for the district’s portion is about $200,000 and that the DOT would handle survey and bidding as part of the larger project. The motion to request DOT inclusion carried unanimously.
On a smaller facilities purchase, the board approved buying two sets of primed handrails to be painted in-house at a cost of $1,742 rather than the galvanized option of $2,343; George Richman moved and Amanda Olauson seconded that purchase, and the motion carried unanimously.
Separately, the board updated attendees that a donor-wall vendor change had been made and the installation was scheduled by Sept. 1; the gym still has minor finish items to complete ahead of an open house and registration day.
