Mapleton board hears updates on staffing, buses and summer programs

At the June 8 meeting, Superintendent Jenna Farkas told the Mapleton School Board that the district’s summer program has enrolled about 60 students and that staffing is proceeding well. She said the district needs to advertise for a custodial position.
Business Manager Meghan McGarry and staff reported that the district’s electric bus is back in service after inspection and that bus procurement bids are starting to come in. Board members discussed the possibility of corporate donations to help with busing costs and floated the idea of converting the PTO to a foundation to accept such donations.
Facilities staff outlined summer maintenance priorities: the gym floor needs resurfacing, doors require repair and plumbing issues will be addressed. Curriculum and special-education purchases will wait until the new fiscal year before orders are placed.
The board did not take formal action on staffing or facilities during the meeting; members reviewed operational updates and directed staff to continue procurement and maintenance planning.
