Board introduces new natural resource specialist; members raise dispute over Raton Street access signage

The Bay State Park Citizens Advisory Board on May 14 introduced Aaron Cooper as the board's new natural resource specialist who will oversee operations in the area and received multiple thank-yous from members as he prepares to leave the board.
A Committee member opened the staff segment by saying, "I'd like to introduce Aaron Cooper to the board. He's the new natural resource specialist," and multiple members later expressed appreciation for his service. "Thank you for your service," one board member said.
Separately in board comments, the chair raised a concern about an access sign on Raton Street that directs visitors away from a known access route. The chair said the sign reads "attention, no park access or parking" and argued that there is parking and park access via local pullouts and DNR land; the chair said the sign "seems to me it violates something." Board members agreed the signage creates confusion for visitors and asked staff to follow up with enforcement or the sign owner.
The meeting also included routine staff and volunteer acknowledgements and no formal votes on personnel matters. The board scheduled its next meeting for Sept. 10 at 5:30 p.m.
