Wilbraham Conservation Commission adopts hunting rules, approves permits and several town conservation actions

The Wilbraham Conservation Commission on June 8, 2026, approved several administrative and regulatory items including minutes, an Order of Conditions, revised hunting rules, and authorization of bow hunting on nine town parcels for the 2026 season.
Motions and votes at the meeting were unanimous among members present. The Commission approved the May 18, 2026 minutes (motion by James Coletta; second James Murphy). The Commission then approved an Order of Conditions for DEP#341-0395 for Unlimited Property Services at 792 Tinkham Road, with a textual revision to add the phrase "or other expert" to paragraph 42 (motion by James Coletta; second James Knittel).
The Commission adopted changes to the Hunting Rules and Regulations adding the language: "NO PERMANENT TREE STANDS ALLOWED. Tree stands must be marked with hunter's name & phone number OR permit number and MUST be removed no later than thirty (30) days following the end of hunting season." The body also voted to allow bow hunting of deer on nine town parcels for the 2026 season; the minutes note the Town Clerk issues permits and is limited to 200 permits per season.
Other business included approval for the Crane Hill Disc Golf Senior Games to be held Sunday, June 28, 2026; Alice Coleman volunteered to serve as the Commission's liaison to the Open Space Committee; the Commission is seeking volunteers to fill a vacancy on the Community Preservation Committee following the resignation of Stoughton Smead; and the Commission noted that demolition of the burned McDonald Nature Preserve barn will be paid with insurance proceeds and that three bids have been requested. Chair Christopher Brown said he will revisit the Whitford Place Pond flooding site with DPW Director Tonya Capparello to determine whether an RDA or NOI is required, and Commission members will meet on site with Ludlow Construction to review the Springfield Street and Stony Hill Road project.
Having no further business, the Commission adjourned at 8:10 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for July 13, 2026 at 6:30 p.m.
