The St. Peter City Council voted July 13 to accept funding from the Saint Peter Girls Fast Pitch Association to purchase and install four electronic scoreboards at Jefferson Park.
The city administrator and staff told council members the association raised approximately $30,000 to fund the project and sold sponsorships that will appear on the units; the packet includes a donation agreement that outlines ownership, sponsorship display and operation under the city’s donation policy.
A council member disclosed a personal connection to the project: one council member said they serve on the softball association board and that they and staff worked closely on the project. Another council member thanked the association for their work raising funds.
The chair introduced the resolution on packet page 31 and asked for a motion. A motion to approve passed by roll call (Scharstrom, DeVos, Johnson, Perez each recorded as 'Aye'), and the chair announced the resolution was approved.
The scoreboards will be used at Jefferson Fields by the Girls Fast Pitch Association and by other users of the fields, including youth baseball and slow-pitch leagues; city staff will complete the purchase under the terms described in the packet.
