Residents raise trash, tree and safety concerns as Mayor highlights summer events

During the June 16 Board of Aldermen meeting, Mayor Johnny D. During citizen input, residents raised several neighborhood safety and quality‑of‑life concerns: Karen Adams reported a neighbor burning trash in a yard; Larry Coultrie commended the Electric Department while pointing to dead limbs on trees; Brenda Payne raised traffic concerns near the Shelaine Motel; Caleb Glass asked about fireworks planned July 5 on South Locust Street; Leon Manning expressed safety worries about three transformers on a single utility pole; and Toni Rogers requested light poles at 113 and 117 South Meridian Street. The board acknowledged each two‑minute comment but recorded no immediate remedial motions in the minutes.
Board members reiterated community reminders about Juneteenth and the Blue and White Festival and instructed staff to pursue appropriate follow‑up where necessary. The minutes show no formal votes tied directly to the public complaints beyond noting them on the record.
