Aberdeen board advances Port Commission ordinance, lowers transient vendor fee and approves festival vendors

The Aberdeen Board of Aldermen on May 5 voted to move forward with adopting an ordinance to establish an Aberdeen Port Commission, setting governance, powers and responsibilities for the port entity. The motion to proceed with the ordinance passed on roll call with all present recorded as voting "Aye."
The board also voted to post and advertise the City of Aberdeen transient vendor license application process and to reduce the transient vendor fee from $250.00 to $200.00. The board directed that the change and application be published in the local newspaper and on the city's website.
Separately, the board approved two alcoholic beverage vendor permits for the Aberdeen Blue and White Festival on June 27, 2026, and authorized a $500 donation from Aberdeen Public Utilities to the festival account. The festival vendor motions passed on roll call.
The minutes note that the Newberger Park property is partially federally funded and that the city must secure consent from the Aberdeen Housing Authority before pursuing certain grant-funded renovations; City Attorney Walter H. Zinn, Jr. was asked to research property status. City Administrator Teresa Baker-Young reported ongoing grant coordination work with regional partners to address infrastructure and water issues.
