Aberdeen—ity officials approved a series of procurement measures at their May 5, 2026 regular meeting, including vehicle purchases for utility departments, financing for police vehicles and a number of equipment and maintenance contracts.
The board approved purchase of a 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 for the Aberdeen Electric Department from Larry Clark (Amory, MS) for $45,770.00; the roll call recorded Alderwoman Rhonda Moore, Aldermen James Ivory, Jeremy Belle and John Cain voting "Aye" and Alderman Nicholas Holliday voting "Nay." The board approved a 2026 Silverado 1500 Crew WT 4WD for the Aberdeen Water Department from Rogers Dabbs Chevrolet (Brandon, MS) for $44,407.00; the same vote pattern was recorded. A 2025 Silverado 2500 for Aberdeen Water ($47,790.20) was approved later, with Holliday recorded as "Nay." The board also approved hiring of a water-department laborer, Markus Strong.
For the Aberdeen Police Department, the board voted to purchase three 2026 Dodge Durango PPVs from Kirk Auto (Grenada, MS) for a total of $139,671.00. The purchase will be financed through Bank Okolona at 4.25% interest over 60 months; the minutes record a monthly payment of $862.00 and the motion passed on roll call.
The board approved multiple purchase requisitions and maintenance contracts across departments, including transformer repair and reconditioning ($12,261.18), a Maggie Magnetic Locator ($1,255.00), jet/vac sewer services and cleanouts, forklift rental, curb stop parts, a Jet/Vac truck service for sewer work, right-of-way tree trimming ($2,500.00), and other supply purchases for the water and electric departments. Some votes on paying the docket of claims noted narrow roll-call differences regarding expenses paid by Huntington Bank (formerly Cadence Bank).
The minutes do not enumerate every board member's vote for all purchase items; when individual votes were recorded in the minutes the article reports those named roll-call positions. Funding sources for most purchases were listed as departmental maintenance or equipment funds where noted; specific line-item budgets were not printed in the minutes.
