Aberdeen board places inspector on probation, terminates deputy clerk after executive sessions

Zinn, Jr. was retained as City Attorney; motions to retain each passed on roll call votes. The board voted to retain Melissa Moore as City Clerk after a separate, unsuccessful motion to appoint Devonshae Young as interim City Clerk failed for lack of a second; the retention motion passed with Holliday, Moore, Ivory and Belle voting "Aye" and Cain voting "Nay."
The board also approved termination of Fireman Michael Roberson for job abandonment (effective April 24, 2026) and accepted the resignation of Police Officer Mason Courville (effective April 2, 2026). Votes on those items were recorded in the minutes; on the resignation acceptance motion Alderman Holliday voted "Nay."
The board announced the executive sessions to the public before recessing and again after returning to open session. No additional public action or disciplinary details beyond what appears in the minutes were recorded.
The board indicated that staff reporting and probationary supervision for Roy Haynes are to be directed to Mayor Stevens and City Administrator Teresa Baker-Young during the probationary period. No formal appeals or follow-up hearing dates were listed in the minutes.
