Mapleton Board approves safety-plan spending, staff leave and a lawn-mowing contract

The Mapleton School Board on May 11 approved a safety-plan expenditures memo and several routine personnel and procurement items.
Superintendent Jenna Farkas presented a memo describing how approved funds would be spent on safety and security. Justin Cole moved to approve the safety-plan expenditures, Luke Steckler seconded the motion, and the board carried it. Farkas said she will hold public forums to gather community feedback on safety measures and spending priorities.
Separately, the board approved a teacher’s request for 1.75 days of unpaid leave to complete maternity leave after Blaine Anderson moved to approve and Luke Steckler seconded. The board also approved the district’s intent to apply for Title funding after a motion by Steckler and a second from Cole. A proposal allowing hourly staff with under five years’ service to donate unused sick leave to returning paraprofessionals was discussed and tabled pending further information.
Tanner Anderson submitted a lawn-mowing contract for district review; Blaine Anderson moved to approve the contract, Steckler seconded and the motion carried. The board also agreed to spend $400 to join the state food-service procurement program and heard transportation updates, including repair and reinspection of the electric bus after a windshield failure.
