The Freeman Public Schools Board of Education on Feb. 9 unanimously approved a set of policy updates, adopted the 2026–27 district calendar, authorized the purchase of an enclosed cargo trailer up to $8,000 and accepted the resignation of staff member Lexi Holland, according to board minutes.
Board member AJ Wiese moved to approve the consent agenda, which included prior minutes and claims totaling $666,607.53; board member Tiffany Buhr seconded the motion and the board voted 6–0 to approve the consent agenda. The claims list included routine vendor and service payments recorded in the minutes.
In a separate vote, the board ratified Board Policy 3042 (Construction Management at Risk Contracts). Board member Eldon Ideus moved to adopt the policy and board member Kyle Dorn seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The board also adopted Board Policy 6042 governing the district’s Prekindergarten (Preschool/Early Childhood) Program after a motion from board member Tiffany Buhr and a second from board member Myron Schoen; that motion likewise passed 6–0.
The board accepted the resignation of Lexi Holland effective at the end of the 2025–26 school year. The motion to accept the resignation was made by board member Eldon Ideus and seconded by board member Kyle Dorn and passed unanimously.
On calendar and purchases, the board approved the presented 2026–27 district calendar (motion by board member Myron Schoen, second by board member AJ Wiese) and authorized purchase of an enclosed cargo trailer with a spending cap of $8,000 (motion by board member Eldon Ideus, second by board member AJ Wiese); both motions passed 6–0.
The board also approved a package of policies numbered 5017, 5019, 5020, 5021, 5022, 5023, 5024 and 5025 in a single motion moved by board member Myron Schoen and seconded by board member AJ Wiese; the motion carried unanimously.
During opening procedures the board recognized Deputy Mike Hager as the district’s School Resource Officer; the minutes note he has served as Freeman’s SRO since January 2024 and also serves neighboring districts. Administrative reports included updates from Dr. Havelka on a Gage County memorandum of understanding (MOU), a levy-comparison review, preliminary state aid figures and a legislative update. Mr. Wallinger reported on parent-teacher conferences and student events; Mrs. Sieh provided updates on curriculum, professional development and staffing.
The board listed two discussion items for future consideration — construction project delivery methods and Freeman’s option enrollment limits for 2026–27 — but the minutes record those as discussion items rather than final actions. The meeting closed after a brief committee listing and announcements; the board adjourned at 8:42 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 9, 2026.
Votes at a glance: all recorded motions during the Feb. 9 meeting passed unanimously with six yes votes and no recorded nay or abstain votes.
