Freeman Public Schools board elects officers for 2026
Summary
At its Jan. 14 organizational meeting, the Freeman Public Schools Board of Education unanimously elected Shawn Mencl president, Kyle Dorn vice-president, Eldon Ideus treasurer and Tiffany Buhr secretary, and named committee assignments for the year.
Shawn Mencl was elected board president at the Freeman Public Schools Board of Education meeting on Jan. 14, 2026. The board unanimously approved the nomination after a motion to cease nominations, with the vote recorded as 6-0.
The board also elected Kyle Dorn as vice-president, Eldon Ideus as treasurer and Tiffany Buhr as secretary, each by unanimous 6-0 votes following formal nominations and seconding motions. AJ Wiese nominated Buhr for secretary; Ideus nominated Dorn for vice-president; and Dorn nominated Ideus for treasurer. Holly Klein was appointed recording secretary by unanimous vote.
The organizational actions followed roll call at the Freeman Media Center, where all six board members were present. The newly confirmed officers will hold those positions for the 2026 organizational year and will serve on committees the board assigned during the meeting.
The board also announced standing committees — American Civics; Facilities; Curriculum; Negotiations; Transportation — and temporary committees — Foundation, Media Advisory, Wellness, School Improvement and Extracurricular — with individual member assignments recorded in the meeting minutes.
The board adjourned the organizational election items to proceed with the remainder of the agenda, including routine business and reports. The next regular meeting is set for Feb. 9, 2026, at 7:00 p.m.
