Franklin Public Schools board approves $23,788 in REAP funds for computers and selects Johnson Electric Co. for gym lighting

The Franklin Public Schools District 506 Board of Education voted Monday to spend $23,788 in REAP (Rural Education Achievement Program) funds to purchase student and staff computers for the 2026–2027 school year and to contract Johnson Electric Co. for an alternate gym lighting project to be paid from the district’s Building Fund.
Board member Ryan Bonham moved to approve using $23,788 of REAP funding for student and staff computers, with any excess costs to be charged to the General Fund; the motion was seconded by Board member Erica Dorn and passed unanimously. The board’s action directs district staff to purchase computers for the upcoming school year using the REAP allocation.
The board also considered two vendor quotes for alternate gym lighting: Johnson Electric Co. submitted a $13,610 total quote, and Voss Lighting Design Services submitted a $15,510 quote that included a $6,204 down payment for one option. Board member Derek Fouts moved to approve contracting with Johnson Electric Co. for the alternate gym lighting project, to be expensed from the Building Fund; the motion was seconded by Lori Cole and approved unanimously.
The board approved the consent agenda, a motion made by Michael Bartels and seconded by Derek Fouts. The consent agenda included approval of minutes, financial reports, claims and accounts, and certificated hires and resignations. As recorded on the consent agenda, the board accepted the resignation of Ms. Camala Binder, preschool teacher, effective at the end of the 2025–2026 school year.
Board attendance was recorded at 7:03 p.m.; members present were Michael Bartels, Ryan Bonham, Lori Cole, Erica Dorn, Derek Fouts and Harley Scott. The meeting opened at 7:02 p.m. in the Franklin Public Schools Media Center, 1001 M Street, and adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
