Elyria committees authorize application to Ohio Public Works Commission for five street projects

Elyria engineering staff told the joint Utilities, Safety & Environment and Finance committees on July 13 that the city plans to apply to the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) Round 41 grant/loan program for five candidate projects in 2027.
"We've identified 5 locations that we're asking for council's approval to move forward with," Engineer Schneider said, and later cautioned, "Odds are we'll get 3." The locations listed in the committee report are Winkle Street (Clark to Taylor), West Avenue (9th to 15th), Gulf Road (Hilliard to Dilworth), Olive Street (Poplar to Taylor) and Garden Street (Wolford to Barbara).
The committee moved and carried an ordinance authorizing the mayor to apply for and accept OPWC grant or loan funds if offered. Staff noted that applications for Round 41 must be submitted in early September; Engineering said this timetable did not require emergency action because council meets in August and staff would still have 30 days.
