Finance committee members voted July 13 to certify $129,825 in delinquent utility accounts to the Lorain County Auditor, with staff noting $72,006.84 of that total is associated with Methodist Village.
"This list would add at $72,006.84," the public works representative said when describing the document the department planned to forward to the auditor. Staff said they had attempted to contact Methodist Village repeatedly without a substantive response and indicated they would pursue liening the property if necessary.
Safety service staff said the county treasurer had delayed the tax due date and that could affect timing of payments, but staff also asked for and received committee approval to proceed with certification as an emergency. Council members asked for an update at the next meeting on amounts collected year to date under a recently added late-fee policy.
The committee carried the resolution authorizing the certification to the auditor; staff will continue outreach and return with updated collection figures at the next meeting.
