Resident urges trees along 2nd Street; board to ask Public Works to inspect park tree

During public comment at the Harbor Springs Tree Board meeting, Janice (S3), who identified herself as a 2nd Street resident and a member of the tribe’s housing commission, asked the board to consider planting street trees on the right-of-way adjacent to the park. She said the strip lost its trees during recent redevelopment and asked that the block be made to “conform with the community.”
Board members and staff agreed to pull up Emmett County GIS to verify property lines and to locate the precise planting site. The chair said a resident request form exists for boulevard/street-tree requests and offered to print a copy for Janice. Janice provided her phone number and asked the board to keep her informed about next steps.
Janice also flagged a large park tree that she described as “falling apart limb by limb.” The chair and other members asked Tina (staff) to have Public Works inspect the tree for safety and maintenance needs. The board agreed to add the 2nd Street right-of-way to its list of possible planting sites for next year and to follow up with Janice after the site review.
No formal planting decision or funding allocation was made at the meeting. Members said the Community Foundation award announced during the meeting could support future street-tree plantings, but any work on the 2nd Street site will depend on right-of-way ownership, GIS confirmation, and Public Works’ assessment.
