Mercer council approves minutes, unpaid bills, cancels groundwater permit and OKs building permit

Council Member Erika Lorenz moved to approve the Oct. 22 minutes “as presented,” and Council Member Gary Volochenko seconded. The minutes were approved unanimously. Later, the council reviewed individual invoices and approved payment of unpaid bills; a roll-call vote recorded Council Members Dan Gardiner, Gary Volochenko, Erika Lorenz and Randy Zinke as voting yes.
After Mayor Ken Thomsen presented documentation indicating the city did not own a former groundwater well or hold an easement, Council Member Erika Lorenz moved to cancel the groundwater permit; Council Member Randy Zinke seconded. The roll-call vote recorded Gardiner yes, Kathrin Volochenko yes, Lorenz yes and Zinke yes, and the motion carried.
The council also approved a building permit application from Darren Murray (permit #2025-1). Council Member Dan Gardiner moved to approve the permit and Council Member Erika Lorenz seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Other operational items—such as discussions about tractor rental for snow removal, replacement chains for the skid steer, and a machine-shop door opener—were discussed but not recorded as formal votes in the minutes. The meeting adjourned at 8:48 p.m.
