Mercer council appoints Ken Thomsen as mayor; he is sworn in

Ken Thomsen was appointed mayor of the City of Mercer at a special council meeting on Sept. 12, 2025, and took the oath of office the same evening.
Council Vice President Randy Zinke called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. at Mercer City Hall and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Council member Erika Lorenz moved to appoint Ken Thomsen to the position of mayor for the term ending in June 2026; Randy Zinke seconded the motion. Zinke, Thomsen, Gary Volochenko and Lorenz voted Aye and the motion carried.
After the vote, Ken Thomsen took the oath of office for mayor. With the new mayor sworn in, Gary Volochenko moved to adjourn the meeting; Erika Lorenz seconded. All members present voted Aye and the meeting adjourned at 6:05 p.m.
