Park County staff apply for opioid abatement funds to expand training and Narcan tracking

An agency official said the grant application proposed to fund county trainings — including mental-health first-aid classes and additional prevention curricula — to pay for trainers’ books and travel, provide staff time for outreach, and develop policy and tracking for Narcan distribution across the county. The official said they expected to hear back about the application the following week.
The official described plans as demand-driven: the county would offer two to three classes a year depending on need, pay trainer expenses and travel, and coordinate outreach to reduce stigma and increase access to Narcan training. The grant application also would support staff time to implement the outreach and recordkeeping necessary for a Narcan distribution policy.
Council members welcomed the proposal and noted the training could also help public-health nurses and community partners. No award decision was reported in the meeting; staff said they would update the council when they have further information.
