PLAISTOW, N.H. — The Plaistow Old Home Day Committee met April 20 to tighten plans for the community celebration, confirming vendor, tent and entertainment logistics and identifying volunteer needs for both Friday and Saturday events.
Nancy Bishop, a Plaistow Old Home Day committee member, opened the meeting and recorded attendance; the group approved the minutes from the April 7 meeting on a motion by Kate Sherman-DeRoche, seconded by Bishop, with a 4-0-0 vote. The meeting began at 6:38 p.m. and adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
Barbara Gallagher, representing the YMCA, described planned Friday activities set for roughly 4–8 p.m., including Jenga, Connect 4, a gaga pit (size to be confirmed with Angela Edwards) and table-based crafts. Gallagher said the YMCA will provide volunteers and is coordinating Saturday participation as well, including support at road-race stations and a potential float; Jon Gifford will assist in exploring use of a trailer as a float.
Committee members confirmed several operational details for the Saturday Old Home Day: Kate Sherman-DeRoche said a 20-by-20-foot tent is reserved and cautioned that any decorations or hangings must be attached with painter's tape. Nancy Bishop reported vendors at 73 of 80 allotted spaces; Alan Davis is expected to supply the site map once it is ready.
Entertainment and contest logistics were reviewed. Sherman-DeRoche will contact Luke Swanney about performing the anthem; Angela Edwards outlined time slots for performers and said Friday's programming will be promoted as 'Freedom Fest' while Saturday will host the Old Home Day lineup. Race organizers said medals will be distributed at about 10:20 a.m.; baby-contest trophies are scheduled to be available by late May. Grand Rental confirmed drop-off for inflatables and games around 7:45 a.m. and pickup at 3:45 p.m.
Fundraising updates included a Leos Club 'jail cell' fundraiser in planning and a report that the recent "Dance for the Boom" raised $1,917 for event activities. Kate Orsini is coordinating raffle outreach to local businesses and will contact the YMCA for parade-ride details with first-responders; Sherman-DeRoche has reached out to the sheriff's department about providing an honor guard and is continuing contact with fire-department liaisons.
Organizers also confirmed that fireworks pricing has been finalized and that Sherman-DeRoche will coordinate related school logistics. T-shirt design work is being handled by Alan Davis. The committee scheduled its next meeting for Monday, May 4, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Plaistow Historical Society.
Formal actions recorded in the meeting minutes included the approval of the April 7 minutes (motion by Kate Sherman-DeRoche; second by Nancy Bishop; recorded 4-0-0). The meeting was called to order on a motion by Nancy Bishop and adjourned on a motion by Kate Orsini; both procedural motions were noted as carried by voice vote.
