Navajo Prep previews residential cell‑phone pilot and inaugural gala; board asks for stakeholder input

The Navajo Preparatory School Board on Feb. 20 heard two non‑voting presentations: a residential cell‑phone pilot and plans for an inaugural fundraising gala.
Keith Neil, Associate Head of School for Academics & Operations, and Roderick Denetso, Division Director of Student Life & Wellness, presented a residential home cell-phone pilot. The board recommended that a letter to parents and stakeholders be refined with input from the Residential Home Core Team and noted the pilot will be discussed at an upcoming Parent Guardian Advisory Council meeting.
Dr. Darah Tabrum, Associate Head of School for Advancement & Outreach, presented details for the school’s inaugural gala, 'A Night of Brilliance,' including date, time, location and a draft agenda. Dr. Tabrum said proceeds will go to student scholarships.
Earlier in the meeting Shawna Becenti reported on the Classroom Without Walls Leadership Program that took 10 students to Washington, D.C., and Dr. Tabrum announced a New Mexico Indian Education Department grant to continue development of the Navajo Language App.
The board did not take formal action on the pilot or the gala; both were presented for consideration and planning.
