Navajo Prep board approves application for Section 105(l) facility lease agreements

The Navajo Preparatory School Board of Trustees voted unanimously Jan. 16 to approve a resolution authorizing staff to apply for facility lease agreements under Section 105(l) of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act for three campus buildings: the New Student Home, the Wauneka Building and the Hogan.
Head of School Shawna A. Becenti reviewed the 105(l) application and guidance for the board, describing next steps in the application process for the three facilities. On a motion by Member at Large Ernestine Begay, seconded by Vice President Jennifer Redhouse, trustees approved the resolution (Vote: 5-0-0).
At the same meeting the board moved two consent items into New Business: Item C, “Indian School Equalization Program Student Membership Certification,” and Item D, “2026 Staff Technology Auction.” Charley Long, Sr. moved to move those items and Vice President Jennifer Redhouse seconded; the board voted 5-0-0 to place the resolutions on the New Business agenda for consideration.
The board’s approval authorizes school leadership to proceed with the 105(l) application steps discussed at the meeting. Shawna Becenti said one agenda item previously listed (Item A under New Business) will be addressed as part of the school’s re-authorization process with the Navajo Nation School Board and the Department of Diné Education in June 2026.
The board will meet next on Feb. 20, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Navajo Preparatory School.
