Town President Mike Brody opened the May 13 Boswell Town Council meeting and the council approved accounts payable vouchers totaling $253,772.74. Councilman Kylee Varnado moved to accept the April 8 minutes and Councilman Jake Foster seconded.
Andrea Bowman of the Benton Community Foundation presented Marshal Michael Marquess II with a $1,700 check to purchase a new taser for the police department. Marshal Marquess reported recent community outreach, including a May 1 mental health awareness convocation and a "Comics with a Cop" event on May 10 that drew more than 40 attendees; Benton County Ambulance staff assisted at the event. "Parents, please be aware of what your children are doing and where they are," Marshal Marquess said, urging use of Life360 and adherence to curfew ordinances to reduce vandalism over the summer. He also reported 78 calls for service and said several real-estate nuisance cases have proceeded to court for failure to abate conditions.
Fire Department representative Kyle Brost said the station office renovation is complete and that the department has purchased three sets of turnout gear so far this year, thanking the Benton Community Foundation for support. Brost said the department is seeking quotes to pressure-wash the station roof and warned residents about burning during dry, windy conditions.
Water & Street Superintendent Jim Turner reported that service was installed at the fairgrounds for the new 4-H building and that crews repaired a water-main break at the east end of the park. Turner said new residential services were installed for Jose Bustos on Smith and McKnight streets and that the stretch from Main to North Street will receive micro-surfacing in the next two weeks under the town's 2024 CCMG grant. Turner clarified that May brush pickup excludes leaves and household garbage and will occur the Tuesday after Memorial Day.
Wastewater Superintendent Travis Barrett said a sewer line on South Clinton was plugged and warned residents not to flush baby wipes, cleaning wipes or other items besides toilet paper, noting that products labeled "biodegradable" can still cause blockages.
Under old business, the council confirmed a town-wide garage sale for May 31 and town-wide garbage pickup on June 7; residents who operate golf carts were reminded to obtain 2025 permits. Organizers announced a Back to School Bash for Aug. 1 from 5–7 p.m. with backpacks, games and services; the Community Pantry operates the first and third Saturday of each month at Ambia Methodist Church. Resident Hector Alvarez publicly thanked Marshal Marquess for addressing a parking issue in front of apartments on Dana Street.
The council set its next meeting for Tuesday, June 10, 2025, noted a hearing for disconnects and adjourned. Accounts payable vouchers totaling $253,772.74 were recorded as approved.
