Union Point City Council approves zoning requests, fire-protection IGA and multiple city measures

Union Point’s City Council met June 10 and approved a package of local items that included two land-use decisions, a planned consolidation of fire services with Greene County, purchase of industrial-park signage, a library memorandum of understanding and two Fire Department policies.
Mayor Lanier Rhodes opened the meeting and the council approved the agenda and minutes. In two public hearings, the council approved a conditional-use permit for a mobile home on parcel 122-0-000-120 after Bureau Veritas zoning representative Yvonne Greenway recommended the parcel as feasible provided the home passes a pre-move inspection. Applicant George Citron spoke in favor of the permit. The council also approved a variance to the front setback at 1041 Country Club Circle after Greenway recommended a 60-foot setback (the applicant, Rodney Walker, asked for 90 feet but said he would accept 60).
The council voted, unanimously among members present, to enter an intergovernmental agreement with Greene County to consolidate fire protection services beginning Oct. 1, 2025; the motion was made by Council Member Jim Scott. Fire Chief Will Wright told the council he would follow the council’s direction. The council approved two required Fire Department standard operating policies on second reading — juvenile fire-setter intervention and hose-and-hydrant testing — and approved purchase of two Industrial Park entrance signs at a total cost of $6,400, with the city clerk authorized to approve a final print proof prior to installation.
City Clerk Becky Cronic updated the council on two ongoing municipal-court code-enforcement cases; Attorney Reitman was not in attendance but hopes to have the matters finalized by July 1, 2025. The council also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Greene County Library for a Story Walk along the Firefly Trail and was told that staff and library representatives will meet in early July to confirm panel locations.
