The Montello Park Board met Aug. 21 and discussed the Little League's 2025 budget, beach maintenance options including a muck buster, and plans to find a 30-foot-or-taller Christmas tree for Daggett Park. The board set a Sept. 18 meeting to continue budget work and adjourned at 5:52 p.m.
Members present for the meeting included Kathy Steinke, Bill Faulkner, Dennis Schrimpf, Barb Jordan and Venise Mugler; Mayor Houdek and city staff member Mike Kohnke were also listed as present in the minutes.
On old business the board discussed the Little League's proposed 2025 budget and agreed to meet with league representatives for further discussion. The minutes note that a water line related to that work is expected to be installed around October; no formal budget vote or dollar amounts were recorded in the meeting minutes.
Under new business, board members discussed beach maintenance at the city beach and the potential use of a "muck buster" to remove shoreline material. Mike Kohnke said he would gather more information about the equipment and bring recommendations back at the next meeting.
The board also discussed locating a large tree for Daggett Park's Christmas display. Mike Kohnke said he would begin looking for candidate trees and that any donated or sourced tree would need to be at least 30 feet tall.
During other business, Bill Faulkner asked whether newly placed benches downtown could be sited in an alleyway; Kohnke said he would handle placement and logistics. The minutes record the item as a staff follow-up rather than a formal policy decision.
Dennis Schrimpf moved to adjourn; Kathy Steinke seconded. The motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 5:52 p.m. The Park Board's next scheduled meeting is Sept. 18, 2024, at 5 p.m.
