Fairview board holds officer balloting, names 2026 committee rosters

The Fairview Area School District Board of Education conducted its organizational business Jan. 12, holding nominations and votes for board officers and naming committee members for 2026. Temporary President Anne Tompkins called the meeting to order and, by motion, the board appointed Troy Ross as temporary chairman to conduct the organizational election and Janice Handrich as temporary secretary.

Nominations for president were held: Janice Handrich nominated Anne Tompkins and Ryan King nominated Gary Wnuk. The recorded vote showed Tompkins receiving four ayes, Wnuk two ayes and one abstention (Ryan Blair). For vice president, Mike Alchin received four ayes to Ryan King’s two, with one abstention. Janice Handrich was nominated and received six ayes and one abstention for secretary; Amber Larrison received six ayes and one abstention for treasurer.

President Anne Tompkins reviewed conflict-of-interest policies (Policy #0143, #144.2, #144.3). The board announced committee assignments: Building/Maintenance (Chair: Janice Handrich; members: Mike Alchin, Gary Wnuk; alternate: Anne Tompkins; additional alternate: Rich Ellis); Finance (Chair: Amber Larrison; members: Ryan King, Anne Tompkins; alternate: Gary Wnuk); Negotiations (Chair: Amber Larrison; members: Mike Alchin, Janice Handrich; alternate: Gary Wnuk); Policy Review (Chair: Anne Tompkins; members: Janice Handrich, Gary Wnuk; alternate: Mike Alchin); and School Improvement Team (Amber Larrison and Ryan King; alternate: Gary Wnuk).

The board also set its 2026 regular meeting schedule: the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the high school media center.
