Broken Bow council approves water-main change orders, temporary road closures for tie-ins

The Broken Bow City Council on Nov. 10 approved two change orders tied to the 2024 Water Main Replacement Project and authorized short-term street closures to allow crews to complete tie-ins.
Council approved Change Order #1 with Myers Construction, Inc., to extend the project’s substantial completion date to Dec. 31, 2025. The motion passed with Councilmembers Russ Smith, Travis Kleeb and Paul Holland voting aye; Joe Wamsley recorded an abstention.
Council then approved Change Order #2 with Myers Construction to install an 8" tapping tee with valve and box at 11th Avenue where it connects to the 8" main on South F Street for a net contract increase of $8,712.50. The vote mirrored the first change order: Smith, Kleeb and Holland voted yes and Wamsley abstained.
The council also approved temporarily closing two intersections — South 13th Avenue at the south side of Highway 2 and South 15th Avenue at the south side of Highway 2 — until Dec. 5, 2025 to facilitate underground utility work for the water main replacements. Ryan Jones, Water-Sewer Superintendent, said the closures are needed "to complete the concrete tear out that will allow them to tie the new main to the old main." Council recorded the closures as supported by the Utility Board.
City Administrator David Schmidt noted the Utility Board’s agreement and the council’s votes; no additional funding was approved at the Nov. 10 meeting. The change order approvals were recorded in the minutes with the abstentions noted in the roll calls.
