"The roots have been compromised enough that we probably need to take it out as well," the presenter said, noting previous topping for power-line clearance and extensive root cuts near the trunk.
Board members questioned the condition of individual trees, including one at 605 Oak Street that appeared relatively healthy in photos. The presenter acknowledged that the photos do not fully capture the damage: inspectors documented dead branches and large pruning cuts near the trunk and root cuts on the sidewalk side, and said the cuts exceed recommended industry guidelines for maintaining tree health. The presenter also said photos and packet materials were provided to the board for review.
During public comment, a resident reported a long-standing stump at 308 Overton that has attracted rodents and pests and asked about a removal schedule. A city staff member replied that the city recently acquired a stump grinder and is accelerating stump removals year-round, and pledged to inspect the reported address.
A committee member moved to approve the case, stating that the removals conform to the intent of the regulations, preserve public safety and welfare, and do not injure the neighborhood’s essential character; the motion included the addition of 837 Maple Street. Roll-call votes were recorded and the motion was approved by the members present. The board then moved to adjourn.
