Town Manager reports FEMA reimbursement and pickleball fundraising; public hearing to accept FEMA funds planned

Town Manager Jessica Cyr told the Select Board May 18 that Lancaster has been awarded $184,347.46 from the New Hampshire Homeland Security and Emergency Management office for damages incurred in 2025; the board will schedule a public hearing to accept those funds.
Cyr also reported meeting with Kailene Jones of the Women of the Mountains Birth Initiative, which is exploring acquiring a Lancaster property to serve as a resource hub and may seek town support for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application.
On parks funding, Cyr noted that pickleball organizers have raised more than $18,000 toward resurfacing courts and are requesting up to $5,000 from the Lou Leaver Fund to cover the remaining cost. Selectman Rideout cautioned that the board had just voted to delay paving projects and indicated the town’s current capital posture may limit additional discretionary spending. Cyr confirmed the acceptance of charitable donations would make funds town property and subject to procurement rules.
The town also planted two spruce trees at Soldier’s Park and Colonel Town Recreation, and Northern Forest Center submitted a Rotary grant application for historical and trails assessments at Community Camp.
Next steps: a public hearing will be scheduled to accept the FEMA reimbursement and the board will discuss Colonel Town capital needs at an upcoming work session.
